About
Nicolet Barclay is an artist, illustrator, and storyteller based in Boise, Idaho. Growing up in the scenic resort towns of South Lake Tahoe, CA, and Coeur d’Alene, ID, she developed a deep appreciation for nature and creative expression. She studied graphic design and illustration at Boise State University and has called Boise home ever since.
Working primarily in digital illustration, watercolor, and gouache, Nicolet brings imaginative characters and vibrant worlds to life. She writes and illustrates character-driven stories, weaving personal experiences and travel inspirations into her work. Her first children's book, Ana the No-toed Sloth, was inspired by a volunteer trip to Costa Rica, and her latest, Something is Different, was created after the birth of her daughter in 2024.
A long-distance runner, Nicolet finds creative ideas in the rhythm of the trails, letting her mind wander as she runs through the Boise foothills. She envisions her creatures as more than portraits—they are companions, waiting to be welcomed into someone’s home, to spark wonder and storytelling for years to come.
