Naughty Show II. Visual Arts Collective. December 6, 2019- Feb 1 2020
This was my first time participating in the Naughty Show with Swell Artist Collective. It took me a little while to decide on a subject. I played around with some funny sex puns before deciding on something a little more personal.
I've been thinking a lot about the passing of time. It seems like years are going by in the blink of an eye. I keep having this fear that I'm doing all the wrong things. Am I spending too much time on work? Am I spending my time with the wrong people, doing the wrong things? What is the point of everything? Not to mention that annoying biological clock. Also, what's the deal with facebook serving up ads suggesting I get my eggs counted?? You can't hide from the pressures and if you're among the undecided, uncommitted and free to do whatever you want... the options present another kind of pressure.
My painting, Only Time Will Tell, illustrates this pressure. Mermaids are not only a great (naughty) subject, but they also represent both love found and love lost. They represent heartbreak and the feeling of not belonging to one world.
The composition is very symmetrical and designed to represent a clock. Each mermaid swimming in a different direction and caught up in her own emotions of the hour.
I'm not sure what the future will hold for me as I spend each day in some sort of ambivalence about most things. I do know one thing, this painting will be hanging on a wall at the
