I'm Nico Barclay, an artist based in Boise, Idaho.

Most of my work is acrylic on wood or cradled birch: small plein air studies of the trails and landscapes around the Treasure Valley, and larger pieces that lean into color, texture, and a sense of place. I also work digitally, creating illustrations and repeating patterns for surface pattern design, from fabric and stationery to home goods and licensed print work.

My style is rooted in graphic design and illustration, which means I'm drawn to strong shapes, satisfying color palettes, and work that feels both fresh and considered. Growing up in South Lake Tahoe and Coeur d'Alene gave me a deep love of mountains, wildflowers, and the specific light you only find in the West, and that shows up in my work a lot.

I'm also the author and illustrator of two children's books, Ana the No-Toed Sloth and Something is Different, which reflect my love of travel, storytelling, and parenthood.
